[PHPLondon-discuss] September meeting

OK, so it's 27 hours...
Anyway, I went along to the place today just to double-check everything. The
venue this month (which wasn't our first or second choice due to late
organisation), is The Apostle, which is on Ludgate Hill, close to
Blackfriars and St. Paul's stations, with lots of buses nearby (4, 11, 15,
17, 23, 26, 76, 100, 172 - all handy for periods of tube strikes!), and not
too far from Farringdon, Mansion House and Cannon Street stations, amongst
others.
Their 'lounge' room at the very back of the venue is what we have booked,
and there are tables and chairs to seat up to 35. They have a 50" (or so)
flat screen TV at the end of the room (it's long and thin), with power
sockets close by, and it has VGA connections for the presentation (we'll
need to bring cables), though obviously our own projector and screen would
provide a bigger/clearer image.
The good news is that it's free (we do have some funds to pay for venues,
but no point spending/wasting it if we don't need to), the bad news is that
there's no dedicated bar to the room, so we'll have to go out to the front
to get drinks (like with The Hope), though it's not far at all or a major
hassle. Smokers (I don't think there are that many?) will have to head out
to the street in front of the bar, I'm afraid.
It's part of a chain called Jamies Bars, which personally I'm familiar with
as there's a Jamies just near where I live at Canary Wharf.

Anyway, just to emphasise that this wasn't the first choice or even a
considered choice at all for a venue to try, but unfortunately we/I had to
organise it at the last minute and the preferred options were unavailable.
The October 4th meeting is already provisionally booked for The Old Crown
(close to Tottenham Court Road/Holborn/Covent Garden/Russell Square -
http://www.old-crown.co.uk/secondfloor.html).
It will be interesting to see how people find this general location (i.e.
further east along the river from last month at Theodore Bullfrog), as there
are other similar places in the area that we could try in future.
Here's the Google map: http://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=EC4M+7DE
Is looking pretty likely that we'll be having a talk from a man called John
from PayPal, about integrating their services using PHP.

The meeting is definitely happening. I will confirm the venue within 24
hours (normally Matt the secretary does this but he's been away).

Hello,
I'll should be able to make to next week PHPLondon meeting (6th of
September) : has the "new" venue been decided yet ?
And also I'll be going to Brighton the next day : anyone going there as well
? It could be a little more fun than going on my own...
Yours,
Perrick Penet
