[PHPLondon-discuss] Off Topic: Second Life

Can't comment on the technical aspects, as I don't know what it was like
before, but certainly didn't have speed problems yesterday. The site was down
for a weekly upgrade for 2 hours, though.

As for 'seedy' - I guess you could say it's still like that. However, similar
comments could be made about the internet, but I feel it's what you make of
it that's important. If you want to spend your time in the grubby areas then
you can.

However, it doesn't have to be like that. I went looking for some real estate
to buy on a sparsely populated island, and ended up being invited into one of
the homes for a drink and a chat. The fella there was kind enough to give me
a few free objects and some tips on how to use the grid.

So, you can see, it's not quite as interactive as the real world (drink
didn't taste of much ;), but can be as much fun, and is only limited by your
imagination!

Rob.

Last time I tried Second Life it was full of seedy monkey making scams,
loaded slowly, looked apalling and didn't offer anything interesting for me
to do other than "camping" for money.
